Legislative offices find new home

The Legislative Information Office has relocated to the SeaView Plaza, in the old Seward Phoenix Log office space. The LIO was formally located in the Chamber of Commerce.

According to Marianna Keil, Seward legislative information officer, offices were relocated to take advantage of a larger space. The move began in on Dec. 3, and the doors were officially opened on Dec. 17.

According to Keil, the move has received much support from the community, especially among walk-in clients. She hopes the new location, right across from the Alaska SeaLife Center, will lure more people to the offices.

Several community leaders attended the open house, including former mayor Vanta Shaffer,'a0Vice Mayor Willard'a0Dunham and Louis Bencardino of the Alaska Railroad.

The LIO is available to the community as a source of information regarding legislative issues as well as information on statutes, regulations, and access to legislative'a0teleconferencing.

Those wishing to receive LIO updates on legislation and teleconferencing can send an email to Seward_LIO@legis.state.ak.us'a0to be added to the list or call 224-5066.

The office is open from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Mon.-Fri. during the legislative season.
