For the past month, Seward Elementary School fifth- and sixth-graders have been involved in an essay and poster contest to educate the public about tobacco and the dangers of secondhand smoke.
“They worked really hard,” fifth-grade teacher Marilynn Barnwell said.
To reward all of that hard work an ice cream social was held. Winners received t-shirts and ball caps with the slogan: “If you must smoke, smoke salmon.”
It was a fun time for a serious topic.
