Watercolors, ceramics, fabrics and spinning

During long summer evenings, Seward residents and visiting tourists can mingle with local artists during the First Friday Art Walk, beginning with this month’s event from 6-8 p.m. on June 6.

Refreshments will be available at each showing, for a full evening of food for the tummy and art for the heart.

Featured artists include:
• Dot Bardarson’s collection of original watercolors shows at the Edgewater Hotel on all floors. The display features a career retrospective, with works from “way back” to the present.

• Jan and Judy Odner from Moose Pass will be on hand to show woodwork, ceramics and tile work at Starbird Studio on the west side of Fourth Avenue.

• Down the street a short way is So ’n’ Bee Cozy, a creative fabric store with Iverta Mooter and a show called “Silhouette Patterns.”

• Across the street at the DLK building is “A Flying Skein” with Claudia Nekalson. She will demonstrate the fine art of spinning with her wheel.

• A few doors up Fourth Avenue, Ranting Raven is hosting Jeannie Shirk with her delightful “Recycled Book Shelves,” which can be used to display trinkets or little books.

• Around the corner on Third Avenue is the popular coffee house, Resurrect Art, with a multi-media show by Justin Pechuzal.

• Just a short walk up Fourth Avenue is Softly Silk, where Kerry Cline will feature her photos. Cline is mostly known for her oils and silk hangings but has proven herself a talented multimedia artist.

• At the next intersection is Resurrection Bay Gallerie, which has been closed for a couple of years after the death of Margaret Branson. But her daughter, Melissa, is reopening with a collection of Japanese treasures.

• Anna Young also signs “The Lost Art of Alaska Fishing,” as part of a First Friday prelude from noon-6 p.m. at Ranting Raven. Art prints, cards and watercolors from the book will also be available.
