Christopher Lafe’s 178-pound halibut took the lead in the 2008 Seward Halibut Tournament. Caught aboard Glacier Fishing Charters’ “Noble Eagle” on June 12, the catch is a contender for $10,000 in winnings to Lafe, a resident of Wasilla.
After lots of activity last week, second place is now held by Ray Johnston, of Dallas, Texas, with a 165.2-pound fish caught on June 12 aboard Alaskan Fishing Adventures’ “Tia Rose.”
Terry Scott, of Anchorage, fell from first to third place with his 157-pounder, caught on June 6 aboard Seward Adventure Charters’ “Sea Ventures.”
The Seward Charter Boat Association and Seward Chamber of Commerce thanked lead sponsor FedEx and many other generous contributors. Thanks to their support, the angler with the heaviest fish overall will win $10,000, second place $5,000, and third place, $2,500. In addition, the angler bringing in the heaviest fish each day wins a seat on a June 2009 Seward-based halibut charter.
Running the entire month of June, the 2008 Seward Halibut Tournament highlights the fishing opportunities in Resurrection Bay waters and beyond. Daily tickets are $10, or three days for $25.
