The Seward Nordic Ski Club hosts its annual Mount Marathon Pasta Dinner Social fundraiser from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, at the Seward High School. The menu features penne pasta with meat or vegetable sauce, green salad, fresh rolls, cookies from Great Harvest Bread Co. and a beverage. Prices are $8 for adults, $5 for children under 12, 3 and under free. Racers and public welcome.

Job center closure
The Seward Job Center, 809 Second Ave., will be temporarily closed on Tuesday, June 24, and reopens at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 25. Normal office hours resume on Thursday, June 26, and the center will close at 2 p.m. Friday, June 27. Call 478-9032 for information.

Seaton in Seward

Moose Pass fest
Make plans to head up to the 30th annual Moose Pass Summer Solstice Festival on solstice weekend from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, and noon-5 p.m. on Sunday, June 22. Family fun includes live music, vendor booths, children’s games, hot food off the grill, a bake sale, beer garden and pie-baking contest. On Saturday, dance to tunes by the Whipsaws, Spur Highway Spankers, 150 Grit, Alderbash, Gil Rodriguez and more. On Sunday, enjoy jazz by Elite Nine followed by the ever-popular live auction and raffle. Located at Mile 29.5 of the Seward Highway in beautiful downtown Moose Pass. Cemetery tour
The third annual Summer Solstice Cemetery Tour will be held on June 21, weather permitting.  The tour starts at 10:30 p.m. at the American Legion Cemetery and continues on to the Jesse Lee Home, Masonic, Pioneer and city sections of the cemetery. It will last about an hour. The tour is free, but there will be a donation jar for the Library/Museum Building Fund.

Seward children are invited to visit the Seward Community Library on Tuesday, June 17, and check out the visiting bees. Moose Pass resident Irene Lindquist will have her observation hive at the library from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Students will be able to observe the worker bees feeding and cleaning the queen, feeding the larvae and building cells. On June 17, the library will be giving out pollinator wheels donated by the Pollinator Partnership and craft packages from Wikki Stix. The Board of Fisheries adopted a regulation change during its March meeting. The new regulation, in effect for the 2008 fishing season, applies to the Kenai River, from its mouth upstream to Kenai Lake. Fishing from a vessel when the anchor is dragging is prohibited. If an anchor should fail to hold the vessel in a fixed position, fishing must immediately stop until the anchor is pulled or reset to again hold the vessel in a fixed position.

Seward Elementary is collecting empty inkjet cartridges to earn cash. Participants may bring cartridges to the school collection box in a plastic bag.
